Credited as being the site of the first large stone structure built in the world, Saqqara was originally intented
as a Mastaba, the normal mudbrick slab which would house the Pharaohs' body, but Djoser decided he wanted it built higher, and
ordered its reconstruction on top of the old structure. Even after the second reconstruction, he was still displeased,
and ordered it to be built higher on top of the other Pyramid yet again, to give us what is there now, known as the Saqqara Step
Pyramid.
Start your day off visiting the Temple complex of Saqqara. See if you can discover which part was the intended Mastaba,
and where the Pyramid was ordered to be built out larger and wider after the second reconstruction. After the Step Pyramid
you will make your way to the Saqqara Museum, to view the many relics of Djoser. After finishing up at Saqqara,
feast your eyes on Cairo's largest "Bazzar," Khan-al-khalili and enjoy your evening walk around Old Islamic Cairo.
