Expedition Adventures
( 5 Days or More...)
The Sun Sets behind the Camels Doing it true Camel Caravan style... The Sun envigorates the Mind, Body & Soul

Unite with Q.E.A in the heart of the Sahara Desert as there is simply nowhere in Egypt that is beyond us. We can literally take you anywhere so just to get your imagination flowing here is a fantastic idea:

G
et truly back to basics in the heart of the desert as you push all the limits and see the true splendours of the Western Sahara.

The chance is on offer here to follow in the footsteps of early explorers and local Bedouin as you travel by Camel along an old trade route named 'Darb-al Dakhla' between the Sand Dune desert of Dakhla & the White Desert of Farafra.

Test your endurance to its limits by pushing to complete this route which can take up to 6 days or keep it short and still take yourself and your trusty camel into the heart of the desert for only a few days. It’s entirely up to you as always when travelling with Q.E.A.

The Itinerary (*Depending on km per day travelled)

Travelling - The journey begins in Luxor where Q.E.A is based. You won't stay here long though as there is a fascinating drive through the desert in order to reach the Western Desert Oasis of Dakhla where the expedition will depart from. However the journey to Dakhla portrays the desert as it really is and gives a fantastic taster as to what the next several days will hold. Along the way there will be a chance to stop in
El Kharga Oasis to take in the ancient
site that is a Christian burial ground containg many intricately designed mud brick tombs dating from the 4th century. A brief refreshment may also be had here before continuing on towards Dakhla. Upon arrival lunch will be served & there will be chance to have a relax in what will be a totally new environment before heading out to the nights camp at the foot of the desert mountains. The evening's camp brings the chance to get to know your camel guides & 4x4 backup team around a roaring open fire with a wonderful meal prepared by the camps chef. Just chat and fall asleep under the glistening stars but be prepared for an early rise which is sunrise..! (Sleep Well)

The 4x4 Campsite

Reaching the top of the mountain path

Day 1 - It's now the first early rise of many as the sun comes up & you're camp springs to life. Its time to sort all your kit out into your camel sacks so that you can carry your days supplies with you whilst breakfast is being prepared. Pack your sacks quickly as a good feed is on the cards after the most primitive of washes. This routine will follow for every morning throughout the expedition. Once you're fully prepared for the day with all supplies for more than one day due to safety precautions it is time to leave the camp & 4x4's. Nevertheless, don't worry the 4x4's will pitch camp exactly 37 km away on day one which you will reach in the evening but they can be called in any circumstances to come directly to you. It's now just you, camel & guide until the 4x4 camp checkpoint this evening. Day 1's route takes you up onto the top of the mountains you spent the night camping at the foot of named Bab-al Qasmund. This was named by Gerhard Rohlfs who passed this way in 1874. Once the top is reached the landscape will gradually change towards the next type of desert terrain which is that of the 'Marble Labyrinth' or known by the locals as 'Haramish', meaning sharp rock. It is a pure maze of jagged limestone rocks & sand sheets. Keep on trekking through this stunning landscape whilst pausing for breaks at your own desire but bearing in mind if you want to complete this trek in 5 days you must cover the 37km for this day or the expedition length will increase...its up to you? Once the camp is reached it will be time to just let you body flop from exhaustion after unpacking what you will need for the night. The evening meal will be served & the night is yours to use as you wish...star gaze...sit around the camp fire & chat...or simply sleep.

Day 2 - Another early rise as the sun awakens at the same time as the rest of the camp. It’s now time to go and have that daily wash & pack all your gear needed for the days trekking. Then fill up on the morning’s breakfast. Climb up onto your camel & depart from the night’s camp. Today will be very difficult compared to yesterday. The terrain encountered today is that of the 'Black Valley'. In total the valley stretches 45km long & is surrounded by high golden dunes that create a deep black corridor measuring up to 1.5km wide. The 'Black Valley' name is derived from the small stones, mostly pyrite, that litters this passageway. Some incredibly attractive stones can be found here, but if you dig just below the surface a white powdered sand can be found that forms the real base of this landscape. This part of the trek is a real endurance test with landscape failing to change for the whole days trek; your eyes are just guided up the valley and into the distance permanently. 45km must be trekked today in order to reach the 4x4 checkpoint camp today so to stay on the 5 day target...it’s a grit your teeth job today. Just plod & wait in anticipation of the evenings relaxing camp with great food once again. Look back on that mammoth strech you've covered
The Black Valley will take it's toll..!

Trying to find shade beneath a blanket proped by two sticks?
True Arabian desert style
Day 3 - Good morning once again at another early hour. The halfway point will be reached in the forthcoming hours so this is a good day if the trip is beginning to take its strain as it is a great reason for motivation. Wash, restock your camel & tuck into some good breakfast cuisine. Saddle up your camel & mosey on out into the desert wilderness for another day. This day brings many answers to most peoples desires from the desert. Everyone perceives the desert to be full of sand. This day has it in abundance. Nothing but golden sand dunes are all around which can often soar to staggering heights with some estimated to be touching 170ft high. The body will know that the desert is definitely a hot place today with the sun bouncing off the reflecting sand all over your body leaving no shade whatsoever to hide behind. Your mind, body & soul will feel invigorated before the heat hits in as the spectacular sight of the sand dunes really are quite unbelievable. Only another 45km to cover in this day so enjoy this strip of desert whilst it lasts before meeting the rest of the team at tonight's camp on the edge of this terrain. The evening is yours as always.

Day 4 - Rise & shine bright & early as always. Day 4 has now been reached. This is a strange day with the desert undecided about which type of terrain it is going to wear. Once you've washed and eaten for the morning its time to leave camp and see what the desert is offering. You'll see the desert slowly becoming much rockier with pale rocks springing out from dunes all around. The terrain begins to become much dustier due to the soft rock in this area being slowly converted to a powdery form as it's blasted by yearly sandstorms. Today will be a nice peaceful day with only 30km needing to be covered. You'll trek towards the Bir Dikker road which is located near to Farafra. The day will stop short of the Bir Dikker road, at a small Oasis named Adekha. The nights camp with be made here in the dusty white surroundings. The landscape is so undecided
Adekha mini oasis camp

The bright white refreshes & envigorates the mind..!
Sunsets are truly dazzling..!
Day 5 - Farafra waits now you've reached the last day of camel trekking on this expedition depending if you've managed to keep to the km settings for each day. Now is the chance to hit the finish line after the usual morning routine of washing, packing your camel & eating has been attended to. Pack your last lunch box and water supplies as you're on the home straight. The powdery pale rock formations will gradually change to bright, vibrant, crisp white. The formations are made out of 'Upper Cretaceous Khoman Chalk' if you wish to get technical. Spanning 90km east-west & 200km north-south it is the second largest type of terrain in the Western Desert. Today you will trek over the Bir Dikker road & into the heart of the white desert...it's another 45km to the designated Camel Adventure ending at the most specific of rocks inside the White Desert. Just sit back and ride this day out with this gorgeous landscape becoming more & more exhilarating. You've made it all the way from Dakhla to Farafra along one of the oldest trade routes in the Western Sahara. Your guides & camel will then take you to a good position within the desert where the night's camp can be constructed.
Enjoy lounging around a blazing fire, eating a satisfying meal & then settling down for a tranquil nights sleep beneath a blanket of dazzling stars which, will make this a truly unforgettable experience.
